The Cartoon History of the Modern World Part II provides a lively survey from Bastille days to modern times and offers a hilarious graphic take on modern history's personalities and events. This concludes Gonick's award-winning series and examines world events, ideologies, and more, using funny cartoons to show how world events are linked. An easy way of refreshing one's world history knowledge, The Cartoon History of the Modern World Part II will appeal to students and adults alike.

In spite of failing to mention "The War between the States", I am willing to give Mr. Gonick a very handsome review and an "atta boy!" I just wish that I had these books back in the "Dark Ages" when I was at University! I am really looking forward to see what pops up next with his name on it. Keep Up the Good Work!

Highly recommended. As full of facts, honest and irreverent as all his others. As a historian I'm satisfied that he's being very accurate and that the loads of humor will probably aid readers in learning/remembering.

Larry Gonick has a gift for explaining complex subjects with seemingly simple cartoons. Statistics, taxes, genetics, chemistry, sex... Gonick has tackled them all, and nothing is more complex and worthy of his singular attention than world history.

As a history minor in college, I have a deep and abiding affection for world history, and I admit that reading //The Cartoon History of the Modern World, Part 2// thoroughly impressed me with its depth of detail, the expansiveness of its scope, and simply how much actual history it covered. This is no mere recap of European and American history; it is truly a look at the modern world.

And while I found the book more informative than funny, the simplistic artistic style itself adds a lighthearted touch to often unpleasant moments of human history. Gonick pulls no punches, even with the events of the last few years, like the World Trade Center attacks and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

It's more important than ever to know where we've been, in order to understand where we're going, and hopefully //The Cartoon History of the Modern World, Part 2// will shed some light on the subject for new readers.

Granted, this book is brilliant, just like the others. And granted, it is about 500 pages too short, but not even one little panel devoted to the Civil War? That was one of the most defining events of the modern world.

I'm sorry, Larry, but I have to take away a star for that oversight.
