I had never heard of Michele Borba -- one good thing I do as a parent is to mostly have the TV off until
the children are in bed when I catch a few TIVO'd shows -- my spouse watches a ton of sports, but in
a different room and on wknds mostly. This book is huge! its really comprehensive and is more like
an encyclopedic entry on the common problems -- i.e. if you are really having
one of the issues described, this is a fantastic beginning to realize that a)you are not alone,
b)you can do something about it. She gives you a fantastic description and some things you can do, and
a list of resources at the end of the book to look for deeper answers. i.e. if you are looking to change how
you respond to sibling rivalry, an entire book that walks you thro different scenarios and coaches
you scene by scene on how to respond to a situation could work better than this book, but she gives you a great starting
point, and if you don't have a deep problem, that may well be enough to solve your issues for the most part
to a livable degree. For e.g. I found that she had very concisely summed up the strategies for dealing with
rivalry that took Siblings Without Rivalry: How to Help Your Children Live Together So You Can Live Too a whole book
to explain and not as succintly. The encyclopedia analogy is a positive one in this case because
as a busy parent this book has in one spot all the info that you probably have time to ingest. I really
loved her section on dealing with behavior issues. There are nine sections such as character, emotions, electronics,
family,(where I found the info on sibling rivalry) behavior etc.If you don't own another parenting book, then this is the one to get.

This book is exactly what the title implies - BIG BOOK OF PARENTING SOLUTIONS! Dr. Michele Borba not only gives us detailed and proven suggestions (solutions), she talks our language. Her research is outstanding and helps you to be a better parent. From toddlers to teens, she has the answers. Like her other books, she puts her heart into the book, and you can feel the power you are gaining - power in better understanding our kids.

Whether you are an educator, parent, coach, therapist, daycare provider or psychologist - you must take time to read this book! It is large, but you can easily find your areas of interest - which there are many! From your child's behavior ( that lovely attitude) to sibling rivalry - I don't think this book missed a beat. I highly recommend it to anyone working with kids today!
