The following is not a review of the product so much as it is one poor sucker’s initial experience with it:
“…and that’s when the old brain just shets out the back of yer skull.” he exclaimed as the computer brought up the same confoundingly non-descript security message. “Are you sure you want to remove blah-blah-blah from your computer?” He clicked “Yes”, again, emphatically. Windows Install flashed a brief message claiming that it was preparing to uninstall the program.
“Fecking bullshet!” he roared as the computer suddenly changed its tune, now claiming “Another installation is already in progress. Complete that uninstallation before proceeding with this install.”
“WTF!! ‘Install’! I ain’t doin’ no fecking install! I’m trying to uninstall the betch!!” He clicked out of Add or Remove Programs once more. He looked down at the empty, open tray of his hard drive sticking out at him like a taunting tongue. He heard the drive mysteriously whir and then hiss to a stop like the snake it was. He took the newly purchased, yellow, Norton Internet Security disc and slammed it back in the tray, nearly shattering both components.
The drive whirred back to life with a vengence. “Welcome To Norton Internet Security”, it beckoned. His blood strained in the veins of his neck. He clicked again on the yellow words, “Install Norton Internet Security”. Again the drive roared to life. Previously this had been an optimistic sign for the poor besterd, but now it seemed a mere mockery.
Red words: “Application Compatibility Check”, followed by, “a problem has occured which requires your attention: One or more products on your computer are not compatible with this Norton product. Please uninstall all programs listed below, and then restart this process.” There was a yellow Uninstall icon with the words, McAfee Security Center, next to it. Seemed simple enough. But it had before, too. Cruel hoax! he thought, but he could not resist their trap a third time, it HAD to be the way fer fuksake! He clicked it. Uninstall.
“Uninstalling McAfee Security Center”.
“Please wait while the McAfee Security Center components are uninstalled.”
said the white, top half of the screen.
Separated by a black line, written under this on the gray, bottom half of the screen it read,
“In order to uninstall McAfee Security Center, you need to uninstall all McAfee Services first.”
“The fahhhk tooo! What shet is this!” The answer of course, was that it was the same shet that had happened the time before and the time before that. The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. It was a little voice, one that spoke from the buried recesses of his tortured soul, reminding him that he must abort this complex monstrosity or risk destroying either the machine or his mind, whichever he turned on first. Likely it would be both. He knew himself too well and was far too poor to continue with such a project with so much riding on the line. He was little worried of self-inflicted mental peril, his mind had been obliterated long before, but it would be many a moon before he could save enough shekels to purchase a machine again, and one simply must keep up in the Information Age. (and other force-fed whimsy)
Amazon does not offer 30 day price protection anymore as others do. Next time I shop at Amazon, will think about it first and glad I purchased my Nikon D5000 from B&H who offers price protection.

Norton Internet Security is by far the most annoying, bothersome software I have ever used! Of ANY kind! Popups, popups, and more popups! It’s actually almost as distracting as one of those weight-loss ads that shoves the image of 400 pounds of ass-blubber in your face. The interruptions are CONSTANT with default settings, and when you finally get annoyed enough to go check out customizing the settings, you’ll find you CAN NOT shut it up, not even for a day! Only for 6 hours. Sorry, but for me, having to schedule my focused work around Norton is Simply Not Acceptable.
If you care at all about focus and concentration, (and therefore, the quality of your work), STAY AWAY FROM SYMANTEC and NORTON! (And, I guess about a hundred other software companies, for that matter)!
After finding some other Anti-Virus software, do yourself a favor and go track down the last great free firewall, Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6, before Symantec bought them out years ago and turned it into this garbage!
Say it with me, people… “No to Nor-ton! No to Nor-ton!”

I spent $60 on this product to remove some spyware that got onto a friend’s system. During the scan it kept displaying an error telling me to uninstall using a special uninstall tool. The downloader provided to get the tool did not work. I could not properly uninstall the product to address the issue.
When scanning the system Norton 2010 did not remove a series of viruses. An example is Backdoor.TidServ.
The package states that it includes technical support. So I called them and found the support is paid technical support. They wanted to charge me $99, or more, to correct the issues.
Norton 2009 was very good. I strongly suggest passing by the 2010 version.
Last year I used Karsparsky Internet Suite, did a great job! I always check out the latest reviews from PC Magazine before I either renew a security product so I can try to stay with the top rated product. The review for the Norton Internet Security 2010 suite, Beta version was excellent! Well I made a mistake and purchased it, and have had problems ever since, slow computer startup and crashes!! Never had this problem before with Kasparsky! I plan to garbage can Norton and go back to Karsparsky!!
