I recommend this model be avoided. Here’s why.

I’ve had two of these die in under six months, with the same problem. It suddenly stops responding and the receiver gets so hot you can’t touch it. Trying a new battery, different PC or laptop, different USB port – still dead. I bought the first one at a local office supply store, S*****s, but they would do nothing when it failed. I contacted Microsoft and they sent a free replacement. Now that’s died with the same symptoms, making me conclude this has either major design defects (short circuit?) or quality control issues. I’m now using the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000, also Bluetrack, and it’s working well (for a few weeks).

Aside from the severe defect, I did like the mouse very much.

Works great but is huge (for a mini). This is certainly the largest mini mouse I’ve seen. It does work on carpet, a wood desk, piece of paper, etc so their tracking technology is very good. Love the thumb buttons. Much larger than the HP mini that it is replacing.

So good mouse but certainly not small. To me it looks like a full sized mouse.

ive has many glass desks but nothing works on it, so it doesn’t work on “virtually any surface”

This mouse is nice to hold and is very cool to see how the bottom lights up (but only the first few seconds upon touching it.) Yet, there’s nothing about this mouse that stands out. The new technology incorporated into the mouse doesn’t really make the mouse more smoother in its flow across the screen. I’ve actually experienced more jitters and jumps than even the basic Logitech mouses. I’d say, if the technology is what’s making you decide to buy the mouse, then, to go ahead and try it out yourself but not to be totally impressed by it as it is not revolutionary.

We just purchased an Asus netbook 1005 PEB, which we love!!

We thought that this mouse would be perfect for the netbook because it is a “mini” mouse and would be small enough to be a great travel companion for the Asus 1005.

    We were Wrong!

The ‘mini’ mouse is HUGE, probably the largest mouse in our house.

We did not even take it out of its package and are going to give it to someone who has a desktop or laptop that does not travel.

We purchased the mini from Amazon, otherwise we would have noticed how huge it is :(

UPDATE: We just installed a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 and it works great! It is smaller than the “Mini” and also has the new “bluetrack technology” that tracks on almost any surface. It comes in a deep red color that perfectly matches our Asus 1005 PEB :)
