Just opened up the package, put in the install disc and got a rather lovely surprise: Rockstar and Take 2 Interactive deemed us worthy of bestowing upon our computers SecuROM. I haven’t played the game yet, and am deeply disturbed by the fact that Amazon did not inform buyers of the DRM bloatware strewn in GTA:EFLC. I have yet to decide if I will keep the product defected with this intrusive DRM.
Also, those of you who have played GTA4 on PC will already be aware of this, but EFLC also requires you have a Windows Live account, just like in GTA 4. It just amazes me that Rockstar continues to punish paying customers.

Okay, I’ve gotten it to work with an offline profile now. It was my stupid fault for not realizing I needed to scroll down on the account creation screen to create a local profile. Now the game works fine and is just as great as I imagined. Runs VERY smoothly so far, and the graphics are amazing. Much better than what you get on the Xbox 360 version. I’ve already played it before on Xbox 360 so I already know the story will be 5-star, and this game is definitely worth the money if your PC can run it. If not, I definitely suggest it on either Xbox 360 or PS3. Especially “The Ballad of Gay Tony” which added tons of stuff to the game that wasn’t there before. Such as parachute’s, new helicopters, new weapons, etc.
I’m still giving it a 4/5 for now until I can get it to work online. I’m still stuck in the loophole where it won’t let me recover my profile until I update the game, and the game won’t update for whatever reason. And Rockstar doesn’t seem to have the patch available for manual download yet. It shows up on their site but when you click to download you get an error, so I guess I’m out of luck until that gets fixed.
But, the game is definitely worth it!
*ORIGINAL REVIEW*
My title just about says it all. I received this game today, installed it, entered my serial, but then when I go to make a profile is where I run into a problem. I tried to recover my LIVE profile, as I already have one, and during account recovery, a window pops up, that cancels recovery, and tells me there’s an update the I will have to install to play on LIVE. So, I click on update, and it shows the updating screen, but ten seconds later it comes up with an error “update could not be downloaded”. So, after I close that, all I can do is try to recover my profile again, and it’s an endless loop of the game telling me I need the update first before I can recover my account.
Fine, I’d like to play this game on my account, but I’ll give in and try making a new account. This brings the same problem. You have to make a new account through [...], and then must recover it in the game. During recovery, the same thing happens, and it prompts for an update. I can say no, but then it won’t let me recover my profile. My other choice is to create an offline profile, but I can’t even find that option. Not to mention I’d like to play a game I paid for online instead of offline.
So, I visit multiple websites looking for an update. I downloaded RGSC and tried to install that first thinking it may be the problem, but when installing it says I have an unsupported OS which I don’t understand at all being that I’m using Windows 7. So I forget that and try to download some other updates. None of the “regular” GTA IV updates will work so I figure it’s not one of those I need. Then I find out there’s an update “1.1.1.0″ for Episodes from Liberty City. The ONLY place I can find it is on Rockstar, and when I try to download it I get an error.
So, basically I’m stuck in some kind of loophole, and I can’t even play my game. Well, I can play it, but only if I choose not to save my game, which would be pointless. And maybe I’m just overlooking something, but there’s seriously no where in the guide where it says offline profile. It provides me two options to click, and the first one automatically requests I open a browser window to create a profile on [...], and the other is something like, “close window” or whatever. So, there’s no “offline profile” option that I see.
Hopefully I can find a way to download the update soon enough and get my game working. And hopefully then I’ll be able to recover my profile without any problem. I’m not sure if I’m the only one having this problem, but I can’t seem to find anything about it online.
I will note that regardless of this problem I have played both “The Lost and The Damned”, and “The Ballad of Gay Tony” on my Xbox 360, and both were VERY fun. Definitely worth the $[...] if this problem get fixed…and it might just be a problem I’m having. I have also played GTA IV on my PC, and it was very fun as well. I have no doubt these expansions will be MUCH better on PC than they were on Xbox 360, I really just have to find a way to get them working.
IF you like GTA 4, then you will love this game. The story for both are great and each one has a good atmosphere. The graphics options have been improved over GTA4, and it runs pretty smooth on my i7,6GB RAM, ATI 4870 1GB. The character animations are top notch and so if the voice acting. I really wish people would stop giving games 1 star reviews because it has Games For Windows Live on it or SECUROM. At least play the damn game before you give it 1 star. All these people giving games 1 star don’t even own them more than half of the time. I really do think this game deserves 5 stars though.

I love this game, I been waiting for this game since October 2009, wondering when there gunna release it for pc and they release now
the storyline is great and very long (not too long), the Lost and the Damned was about 24 mission in total (mission only) and Ballad of Gay Tony was 26 mission (You can replay mission for better score in TBoGT; different from GTA IV and Lost and the Damned), Overall it is a great game!
Pro thing was: I purchase in Amazon for 29.96 with free shipping but the service proccessing center was in Nevada and I live in Southern California so that 5-10 business days was more like 2-4 days, so I saved alot of money from retail tax/sales tax when purchasing from retail stores and great packaging too!
