I like this because it is semi-realistic, there are not too many pieces, and the pieces are toddler friendly. My now 3 year old daughter plays with this daily, even though toys are not really her thing. Unfortunately, the blood pressure cuff is a little small…barely fits around her arm. Overall, we’re very happy with this play medical kit…it’s still the best I have seen.

My two girls, ages 5 & 2.5, play with this just about every day. I got it about two years ago, and they still are going strong. They examine me, each other, and also play veterinarian with all of their stuffed animals. I think it’s great for independent creative play, and also for alleviating some anxiety about going to the doctor. My kids know what to expect at a check-up now, because they practice pretty much constantly! Unlike another poster, I do not have to play with them for them to enjoy it. They are totally fine on their own – although when we first got it, maybe I did. They were younger then, though. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star review – and I’d give 4.5 if I could – is the case is somewhat small for all the equipment that needs to fit into it. Little hands will have a hard time picking up after they are done playing, because you really have to cram it all in there. Also, the clasp is fairly difficult to open. Even my 5-year old can’t do it herself yet, and has to come to me each time she wants to play with it, if it got closed after last use. But, overall, those are minor complaints. It’s rare that a relatively inexpensive toy gets so much use, and has my kids playing cooperatively, too. I gave it 4 stars for educational value, because several of the pieces of the equipment have spurned questions about the body, and how it works. For example, the stethoscope. I explained how your blood is always moving through your body, and the stethoscope helps the doctor hear your heart. That in turn got questions about the job of the heart, and what a heart attack is (Grandpa had had one), and how to avoid it, etc. etc. The needle for giving shots prompted a discussion about vaccines, germs, and other ways we can stay healthy.

I purchased this for my two and three year old grandsons. My other set of grandkids have a similiar kit and they love it. As with most toys, if an adult doesn’t play with them and turn them on to it – it will just sit idle. We play with me being the patient and the kids taking turns being the doctor. Then they each become the patient over and over. We added an old diaper to the kit for a cover and they love that as well. Now they will play with the kit using a stuffed animal. They have also dragged in an old baby doll bed for the stuffed animals. Even the nine year old grandson gets in on the action. I think this helps develop imagination and gives them practice for when they are the real patient at the doctor’s office. I am especially looking forward to use of the bandaid in this kit.
